How to Prepare for Moving Day
A smooth moving day comes down to preparation. A little effort the day before saves hours of stress when the van arrives. Here is how to get ready.

The Day Before
- Finish packing everything except your essentials box
- Disassemble any flat-pack furniture that needs to come apart, keeping screws in labelled bags
- Defrost and dry out the fridge and freezer
- Charge your phone and any devices you will need
- Confirm the arrival time and parking with your removals team
Sort Out Parking and Access
The closer the van can park to your door, the quicker and easier the load. If you live on a busy street, in a flat, or somewhere with permit parking, let your removals team know in advance and reserve a space if you can. Mention lifts, stairs, or narrow doorways so we can plan the best approach.
Pack an Essentials Box
Keep one box with everything you will need for the first night and morning: kettle, mugs, tea and coffee, phone chargers, toiletries, medication, toilet roll, a few snacks, and a change of clothes. Keep this box with you rather than in the van.
Keep Important Items With You
- Passports, contracts, and important documents
- Jewellery and small valuables
- House keys for both properties
- Wallet, phone, and chargers
